MV Moondancer Wins 30-Mile Endurance Race
Akhal-Teke stallion MV Moondancer was the winner of the 30-Mile Endurance Race on the Pawnee National Grasslands in Northeastern Colorado on Saturday, October 17, 1998, a day which at first seemed to promise atrocious weather. The five year old bay stallion, bred, owned and ridden by Jas Shearer-McMahon, beat 9 other starters, and also won the award for Best Conditioned Horse, scoring strait A's at all vet stops. His total time for the 30 mile course was 4 hours 20 minutes. He finished an hour ahead of his competition. This is Moondancer's first year of endurance competition, and third race this year. Over the winter, he will be training in dressage and jumping.
Moondancer has produced wonderful foals from Akhal-Teke and Arabian mares, and he "dates by mail." If you are interested in learning more about him, please contact

Akhal-Teke Show Held in Ashkabad

Our own Louise Firouz, seen here on the right, was invited to Ashkabad, the capitol of Turkmenistan, in September of 1998 to judge the conformation classes for Akhal-Tekes. Also judging were Tatiana Riabova (behind the table, in the purple jacket) and a representative from Turkey (seated at left). The show was held at the Ashkabad Hippodrome (racetrack). The winning stallion was the dark golden dun pictured at right, owned by the Niazov stud farm (formerly Komsomol). We are still waiting for more information about this show.
