The Turanian Horse Website welcomes firsthand information about the breeds and types of horses mentioned on this site.
In addition, we welcome and encourage owners, breeders and exhibitors of Turanian and Caspian horses, purebred and partbred, to write about their operations and the accomplishments of their horses. We will publish your own accounts in your own words provided they meet the following criteria:
- You may talk about YOUR OWN horses and THEIR OWN accomplishments. You MAY NOT talk about, mention, circumlocute or otherwise compare your horses to other living horses whom you do not own, EXCEPT in the context of listing your own horses' pedigrees, or listing horses against or with whom your horse has competed. Sorry, our legal advisor insists on this.
- All opinions and speculations must be clearly stated to be opinions or speculations, no matter how sincerely you wish or believe them to be true. If you claim that something is a fact, we expect you to provide data or published references to back up your claim. The webmistress is going to be extremely picky on this point.
- Absolutely NO anonymous submissions will be tolerated, nor will anonymous submissions be posted. If you want to say something, you must be willing to include your full real name (no pen names or "screen names"!) and be willing to see your full real name on line.
- If you submit photographs, you must write on the back of the photo your name, the horse or horse's names, and "Permission is granted to the Friends of the Turanian Horse to publish this photograph on the Turanian Horse Website." We will credit you where your photo is published, and return your photos to you if you like. Or you can send us a scanned photo but please don't compress it!
- You acknowledge that the THW webmistress (for now, that's me, Fara Shimbo), has the right to refuse any submission. You'll be told why. You may try to resubmit your submission later on.
- If you copyright anything you write, you must include with your submission permission to use your material. We will acknowledge your copyright and the material will remain copyrighted in your name.
The Turanian Horse Website is copyrighted; however, a copyright on the World Wide Web can be difficult to enforce. If something you write is published on our website, we will try our best to keep it here but we have no way stop people from copying the material here and putting it up on a site of their own, often with ... uh ... editorial changes. We can only act when -- and if -- we find the material elsewhere. The Turanian Horse Website and the Friends of the Turanian Horse are not responsible for what happens to your material in these circumstances, although we will let our legal staff loose on anyone who violates the copyright.
The following points would be of interest to our readers:
- Did you always raise the breed you raise now (Akhal-Tekes or other Turkoman, or Caspian), or did you start with a different breed?
- What first attracted you to the horses you have now?
- What are the goals of your breeding program and how do you plan to achieve them?
- Do you have stallions at stud, and if so, are they available to outside mares? Do they date by mail?
- Do any of your horses compete? If so, who competes, in what discipline, and how are they doing?
- Do you exhibit your horses (at Equine Expos and such)? If so, where might someone go to see your horses?
- If someone would like to come out to your farm or stable and see your horses, what are the House Rules (e.g., no smoking, no dogs, offerings of chocolate a plus; call first for an appointment, etc.)
- Do you have any farm literature, and what will a reader need to do to get it?
- Do you have interesting or humorous stories about any of your horses? Readers love those!
- PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES! They need not be great photography, much less great art, but pictures will greatly enhance your article! (If your pictures have been taken professionally and are copyrighted by the photographer, make sure you get the photographer's permission to use them.)
- Your favorite horse-keeping tips!
You do not need to answer all these questions, or use all these ideas, but remember, especially if you are offering horses for sale or lease, the more photos you have and the more information you give, the more people will pay attention to what you're offering. Also, if you have information other than what's covered here, please include it!
